Mathcounts Advisors: Kim Reik (ext. 5055) and Julie Myers (ext. 5048)
The mission of MATHCOUNTS is to increase the enthusiasm for and enhance achievement in middle school mathematics throughout the United States. With that goal in mind, the MATHCOUNTS School Handbook is created and distributed free of charge to middle schools across the country. The material in the handbook provides the basis for teachers and volunteers to coach student Mathelets on problems solving and mathematical skills.
There are about 17 students from all teams, A through H, from 7th and 8th grades in Mathcounts this year so far. The scheduled times are the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month from 2:45 to 3:45. The purpose of the meetings is to practice different problem-solving strategies. The Mathcounts organization has provided a booklet of practice problems for the students to study. In January, 8 students will have the opportunity to represent Saline Middle School at a regional competition. |
